Someone asked about the type of riding you do, and I think that’s really what it comes down to. If you’re on a cruiser, then I’d definitely go with leather. If it’s a sportbike, then either would do, but textile would be cooler. I honestly think that leather offers more protection, but thank God I’ve never had to experience it first-hand. Ultimate choice: Leather… but a good leather jacket will be pricey. If on a budget: Textile. Whatever you do, get a good one. A better more expensive textile jacket would be better than a cheaply made, inexpensive leather one.

Gabe S, have you tried on a leather motorcycle jacket?!?!?Leather will give you better protection in a fall and (I don’t care what anybody says) it is heavier. If your going to be in Florida with all that humidity you’re going to sweat buckets in a leather jacket. Get a mesh jacket, made by Joe Rocket or Alpinestar they still have the armor in them, you’ll get more air flow and you’ll be a lot more comfortable in it.

I have an Alpinestars textile jacket, it has been waterproof for over eight years (recently it has become showerproof only), it has CE approved armour, a removable fleece liner (toasty), well constructed. It has been involved in two minor but potentially nasty accidents, including a somersault over the front, there was no damage to the construction (although there was little abrasion in either incident – which is were textile jackets fall down in protection performance).I do not know Teknic or Scorpion jackets.Downpoint – it does tend to smell like a wet dog now that it is no longer completely waterproof. This is the closest current jackethttp://www.onyerbike.net/clothing/Jackets/Textile/Alpinestars/Alpinestars_RK-5_Goretex_JacketI would recommend buying and fitting a spine protector too.

Well, you don’t specify WHICH empire to WHICH colony and when. But if you mean the British empire to the American colonies, you missed the obvious rum.

Excellent idea. I wish you every success with your business venture. Your question is what, please?

No textile jackets are nowhere near a safe as leather that’s why they’re not allowed on race tracks road or drag

Leather by far………although heavier..and hotter….Textile in a slide will melt due to the friction between asphalt and the textile…depends on how much you enjoy your skin…and or having the doctor operating and having them remove possible layers of whatever skin and muscle tissue to remove the melted textile. If weight and heat of regular leather is an issue….go kangaroo leather(Wolf has them)….it is even stronger the cow hide..and has much more abrasive resistance But 4x the price

Most cleaners will clean off the mold but it will simply come back again. You will need to use an enzyme cleaner that will not damage the fabric or the leather. The only one that has been tested and will not damage either is Em Clean. This will kill the mold and stop it from returning. http://www.lttsolutions.net/product.asp?product=Em-Clean

Hi Matt, if you want a motorcyle jacket, you can custom-build one at Vanson Leathers. One of the biggest manufacturer – if not the biggest – in the US.http://www.vansonleathers.com/You can pick whichever design you like and have them make it in green. Add your name, stripes, whatever. These are tough jackets. Here is mine standing on the hood of my Jeep.http://www.filmjackets.com/RICKSJACKETS/HouseJacketStiff(wm).jpgIf not a MC jacket there are many, many options. Let me know the style and I will provide you with these option. Dark green, bright green, fluorescent green? It all matters…

Well in Hawaii, riding leathers did me just fine, and they worked well in Sacramento which is extremely humid. This site has some great prices on motorcycle leathers, boots, etc. I have bought leather pants from them for 50 bucks, for crying out loud and they wear just fine. Might be worth looking at. All there stuff that I have purchased has been top quality.http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/browse/browse.aspx?c=107&dc=107

I have both, I have an ICON leather, and a Joe Rocket Ballistic mesh, both have removable body armor… The mesh is a must on 90 degree days, who wants to sweat all over the inside of a leather jacket?Leather is a must for those cool night when the temp in the low lying areas is down in the 60’s.The answer is, own both… if you cant afford to own both, buy mesh, you can always put on a sweatshirt under it. Nothing is going to protect like a heavy leather jacket… but as long as you have a mesh with shoulder, elbow, and spine pads… it sure beats flip flops and a tank top!!!
