Sounds like you have a pretty darn good list going! Like someone else suggested, duct tape is a must! You can use it for anything and it keeps everything together! Fly spray too! Keep in mind that you probably won’t have to keep everything at the boarding stable. If you’ll be purchasing a horse trailer, and if it has a tack room built in, you can keep some of it in there. When you get your first horse, that’s when you have to buy everything. That’s one of the hardest things. Later, if you get another horse, you can just reuse a ton of the stuff on that horse. Since I know how much these things can add up (especially if you’re buying everything all at once), I’ll list some good sites and places to check into for deals on this stuff. So, my personal favorite place for the little stuff is Fleet Farm! I buy so much horse stuff there! Okay, yeah, most of it isn’t top brands and not the best quality and a lot of it looks tacky, it’s super cheap. And they carry a lot of stuff that’s just as good as the stuff you find in magazines for double the price. For example, they have different colored bands (the bands that match manes like brown, black, and white; but they also have rainbow colored bands to have some fun with your horse), and a ton of pans, buckets, and pails that last forever! Fleet Farm is also a great place for dewormer (unless the boarding stable supplies that or requires you to buy it from a specific place or company). Fly spray and shampoo/bathing supplies are there too! I wouldn’t recommend buying their saddles or bridles if you plan on competing, but if you just plan on training horses and need a cheap saddle or bridle, than go for it (I’ve gone through about a dozen reins after losing a couple and cutting them to short for western lol)! There are a lot of magazines and websites online that offer great horse tack, equipment, and supplies but unfortunetly, that’s it’s not the best place to look for your horse stuff-just as far as price. People always seem to forget that there are tack shops! Look around your area and if there are any tack shops near you, definitley check it out! You’ll always find something! Plus, it’s better to actually see it in front of you instead of guessing what it really looks like. At tack shops, there are usually employees there that can tell you about the brands that they carry and can recommend the best products. Most are also very helpful with finding equipment that’ll work for you and your horse. Most tack shops also have better deals than online sites or magazines. If you’re looking for clothes to wear to the barn or to compete in, you can try them on there instead of taking the chance of purchasing it. Same goes for saddles and other various pieces of tack. More great resources are tack swaps. There are a lot held through 4-H. If you’re not in 4-H, there are usually invites and reminders at vet offices that are for horses, boarding stables, etc. Just look around! Most of the tack at tack swaps have been used, but are waay cheaper and usually still in great shape! It’s soo worth going to check it out-trust me!If you choose to buy online, be super careful about it. Make sure to avoid scams by shopping on more well known sites that seem to be more organized. Also, make sure that you can send anything back in case it doesn’t fit your horse or you. Most sites won’t allow you to send bits back, but make sure that you can send anything else back. Overall, you have an awesome list going! Congrats on getting your first horse and good luck! Hope this helps!
